BRYANT – Both the Bryant boys and girls track and field teams had to settle for second at the Hornet Relays at Bryant Stadium on Tuesday. Conway took the top spot in both boys and girls, with the Lady Wampus Cats scoring 95 points, Bryant 82 points, Parkview 78, and Sheridan and Camden Fairview tying for fourth with 45 points apiece. Benton finished in 16th with 9.5 points out of 23 teams.
For the boys, Conway won the relays with 85 points, Bryant followed with 73, Parkview 71, Cabot 65.5 and Lake Hamilton fifth with 60 points. Benton took seventh with 38 points in the 22-team field.
“I’m really happy with how we competed,” Bryant boys Coach Steve Oury said. “Obviously it’s a new era for our track program. Last year’s seniors led the way to a state championship, but they didn’t do it alone. We have several returning scorers from that team and we have some emerging younger athletes who are progressing nicely. Finishing second in a meet of this size showed that we are ahead of schedule.”
The Lady Hornets received two first-place performances from senior Haley Hood, who scored 22 total points, in the 300-meter hurdles and junior Jadyn Lewis, who had 30 points, in the 400m dash.
