The Bauxite Lady Miners, losers of all their match ups with 7-4A Conference rival Mena Lady Bearcats last season — including the 4A State Championship game — got past their rivals on Thursday in a pretty big game. After coming back to defeat host Nashville 7-6 in eight innings, the Lady Miners won the 7-4A District Championship 3-1 over Mena and are the No. 1 seed in the upcoming South Regional in Malvern.
“We’ve played them three times this year so far,” Bauxite Coach Sara Tew, the 7-4A Coach of the Year, said. “The first one was in the Tournament of Champions and we beat them 7-1. We lost 1-0 in the conference season and beat them last night.
“Mena is like the same team. We’re just a little more scrappy. Bailey (Buffington) has more experience on the mound. They just find ways to score. I can’t take any credit for it.”
