After an historic season for the Benton Lady Panther soccer team and another great year for the Benton boys, both Panther teams received their fair share of postseason honors.
For the Lady Panthers, which had no seniors this past season, junior Abby Walker and sophomore goalkeeper Jayme Selph earned All- State honors.
Walker had eight goals and nine assists playing mostly defense, while Selph had 63 saves and allowed just 1.4 goals per game.
For the boys, senior Andrew Norris, junior Aaron Norris and freshman record-setter Garrett Bosley all took home All-State honors.
Bosley set the Benton record for goals in a season with 29 and also dished out 13 assists for 71 total points, also a Panther record. Aaron Norris broke his own school record of 14 assists last season with 20 this year. Norris also scored 10 goals, while older brother Andrew Norris had 10 goals and nine assists while playing mostly on defense.
“We had a very successful season in 2016,” Panther Coach Bobby Winn said. “As the year began, we had many question marks but ended up starting out well, beating Bryant 1-0, and finishing second in conference with a 12-2 record and 15 -3 with a first-round win over Jonesboro 3-1 and loss to Siloam 3-1 In first ever semifinal appearance.”
