Two-time 7A state champion with the Bryant Hornets, including one this past season, Jordan Gentry will continue his baseball career at the next level. On Wednesday at the Bryant High School baseball office, Gentry signed to play catcher for the College of the Ozarks Bobcats, located in Point Lookout, Missouri.
“We kind of talked at the end of the season,” Gentry said of the Bobcats. “Coach (Kirk) Bock introduced me to the coach. He called me up and wanted to come watch me play. The game he watched was the state championship game. I guess he liked what he saw. He told me to come take a visit and tour the campus, and we signed up there.”
Gentry, a 7A/6A Central All-Conference selection who played many positions for the Hornets, didn’t begin the season as a starter, but definitely ended it as one. Gentry hit .343 on the year with 23 runs and 12 RBIs.
“Once he took over in Florida as our DH, it changed the outlook of our offense,” former Bryant Head Coach Kirk Bock, Bryant’s current assistant athletic director, said. “He brought that spark that we needed. He’s been a program guy, he’s worked extremely hard and when he got his opportunity, he took advantage of it and just ran with it. Without him in our order, we wouldn’t have been as successful.”
