BENTON – The Benton Junior Panther ninth- and eighth-grade teams competed in 7-on-7 football Wednesday morning at the Benton Athletic Complex in Benton. The ninth grade finished 2-2 on the day, including topping Pulaski Academy in double overtime in the final game of Wednesday.
“That was pretty exciting for them, especially coming out of our break,” Benton Junior High Coach Randy Shaw said of the late win. “There was a point there we got tired and fatigued, but I was glad to see them have a little more energy, catch a second wind and enthusiasm. They had a chance to win the game and went and won it.”
After taking a three-week break in late June and early July, the Junior Panthers are ready to roll heading into the upcoming season. The team will go to a team camp in Bryant on Tuesday, then head to Lakeside for 7-on-7 action on Wednesday in Hot Springs, and finish up the 7-on-7 play the next week, again at Lakeside. Practice for the upcoming school season begins Aug. 1.
Wednesday, Benton hosted Lakeside and Pulaski Academy.
