Senior forward Jake Scoggins hit two free throws to put the Benton Panthers up 63-60 with 10.4 seconds left a nonconference matchup with the Conway Wampus Cats at Buzz Bolding Arena in Conway. But the Wampus Cats weren't done yet as senior guard Prentice Mullins hit a 3-pointer from the corner with 1.3 seconds left to tie it and force overtime. With a dogfight between the feline foes during regulation, overtime was a breeze for the Panthers on Friday night. Junior guard Joseph Hammond hit a 3-pointer to get overtime started for Benton and the Panthers were off and running to an eventual 76-65 victory over the Cats.
Panthers' senior guard Clay Anderson scored 36 points in the victory as he hit 19 of 24 free throws and 8 of 17 field goals in the win. Scoggins put in a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, and the Panthers will play in a tournament in Cabot beginning on Dec. 8.
