The Benton Lady Panthers hit the road for their first 6A/5A District 5 match Tuesday and came away with a clean sweep over the Sheridan Lady Jackets. Benton won 25-11, 25-14 and 25-18, with junior varsity also coming away with a win (25-14, 22-25, 15-11).
“We played well,” Benton Coach Brandy Chumley said. “Attitudes are great. We’re working together as a team eliminating mistakes. We still have to get better at defense, but it was a good game.
“We’ve been working on closing our blocks and going up together. We’ve changed our blocking up a little bit, working on closing a little bit better; and making sure we get a touch on everything as far as back-row defense, digs.
Senior Rylea Brimhall led the way with 12 kills and added a block, senior Caitlin Murdock had 17 assists, five kills and two blocks, senior Lauren Hopper had five kills, senior Birdie Croushore had four kills and sophomore Lydia Buchanan led the way with 21 assists and added four kills.
