ATKINS – Bauxite sophomore Colton Robinson scored 25 points in a 58-45 win over host Atkins Red Devils on Monday before the Miners had to come back to defeat the Dover Pirates 47-45 on Wednesday in an Atkins tournament.
Down big at the half, 28-15, against Dover, the Miners woke up in the second half.
“It just looked like … playing late at night the day before and then having a turnaround going right back up there … we looked lethargic and just gassed in the first half,” Bauxite Coach Andy Brakebill said. “We had trouble finishing inside. We had a tough time scoring in the first half.”
But Bauxite (8-3, 1-0 7-4A) would get its act together in the second half.
“We had a good little talk at half about effort needing to be better and came out and responded,” Brakebill said. “We started full-court pressing and cut it to four going into the fourth. We ended up going on a run, taking the lead and winning the game.
Sophomore Jacob Stroud led the Miners with 15 points and Robinson had 12 against the Pirates to average 18.5 for the two tourney games.
