The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals snapped a losing streak Friday that some school officials believe began more than a decade ago.
Making the trek to Jessieville for the last regular-season game of the year, the Lady Cardinals put together a strong second quarter, complemented by a stellar second half, and found themselves on top 54-46 at the end.
“We came out kind of flat and I was getting kind of worried in the first quarter,” said Head Coach Megan Tutor. “Our defense was soft and we were just standing up and not doing what we needed to do and we got down pretty early.
“But the second quarter, we came out defensively and got some huge stops that resulted in points for us. It seems like that gave us momentum to get us rolling.”
Harmony Grove would put up 18 points in the second quarter after falling behind 17-6 after one.
“That was the start of the night that really got us going,” Tutor added.
Heading into the break up 24-21, Harmony Grove returned in the third still hot from the floor, adding 17 more in the quarter to lead 41-30 after three.
