Up 32-23 at the half, it looked as if it looked as if the Ashdown Panthers were going to run away from the Bauxite Miners on Tuesday in 7-4A Conference action. The Miners scored just one point in the third quarter and trailed 40-24 after three, but would come roaring back, only to fall just short of the win, losing 52-51 to the Panthers in Ashdown.
“We had our backs against the wall and we just kept fighting,” Bauxite Coach Andy Brakebill said. “The effort was really good but we have to learn, especially being a young team, we’ve got to take away the mistakes and silly fouls.
“We played hard the whole game, but we took it to another level in the fourth. We have to find that other level and stay there the whole game.”
The Miners (10-8, 3-5) led 14-12 after one but were outscored 20-6 in the second quarter to trail by nine at the half to the Panthers (4-6, 4-4).
Lady Miners lose it in 2nd half
Up 13-4 after one quarter, the Lady Miners were outscored 38-26 the rest of the way in a 42-38 loss to the Ashdown Lady Panthers on the road. Bauxite managed just four points in the second quarter, but still led 17-12 at the half and 30-22 after three before losing it in the fourth.
“Dropped another close one,” Lady Miners Coach Cody Lambert said. “We got out to a double-digit lead right off the bat. We were playing well and got it to where it needed to go.
“But it was the same story as when we played them here. We get up big on them early and they just fight harder than we do.”
Bauxite (12-9, 4-4 7-4A) fell 47-45 to the Lady Panthers (4-8, 4-4) in their first matchup.
