The Harmony Grove Cardinals shot the ball poorly Tuesday on Senior Night. With only one made 3-pointer in 19 attempts headed into the final quarter, Harmony Grove needed what seemed like a miracle with only eight minutes left to tick.
But, thankfully their prayers were answered as a late push from senior Christian Brown helped complete a comeback and finish the 5-3A Conference regular season with a 55-51 win over the visiting Bismarck Lions.
The win is the third straight this season over the foe after blowing them out on two previous occasions.
“We talked about making this game a memorable one and it wasn’t in the way that we wanted it to be,” said Head Coach Jeff Hogue.
“We have talked about when we don’t shoot it well, doing the little things enough to win ball games and that was the positive. We didn’t panic when we were down 12.
“We started getting a little wide-eyed but started hitting some shots. It is hard for use to go four quarters without shooting it decently.”
The Cardinals were 4 for 25 from beyond the arc Tuesday.
“We rely on it a little bit too much,” Hogue said. “They know they are good shooters and sometimes it is hard to stop pulling the trigger when you know you can shoot it.”
Lady Cards complete sweep of Bismarck
The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals completed a season sweep of the Bismarck Lady Lions on Tuesday for the first time since the two joined the 5-3A Conference. With emotions running high on Senior Night, the Lady Cardinals prevailed to a 36-22 victory.
Harmony Grove was tied at 4-4 after one, but put together a decent second quarter to lead 16-11 at halftime.
The Lady Cardinals continued to play strong in the second half, outscoring Bismarck 20-11.
Senior Morgan Efird led Harmony Grove with 18.
The Lady Cardinals will take on Mountain Pine on Friday on the road. Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
