Sophomore Sarah Evans slugged her fifth home run of the season as the Bryant Lady Hornets handed Greenwood its first loss of the year with a 4-1 victory in the opening round of the Tournament of Champions at Burns Park.
“We knew Greenwood’s pitcher is good,” Bryant Head Coach Lisa Dreher said. “They played them last year.
“And the hitters really struggle against her. They knew she was going to be tough.”
Bryant, now 7-2, was scheduled to play Rogers (6-1) in the tourney semifinals on Saturday beginning at 1:45 p.m.

The Lady Mountaineers, which won the 7A West Conference title last year, rallied past Bauxite on Friday, 3-2.
“We saw (Rogers) play right before our game,” Dreher said. “So the girls have an idea.
