The Benton Lady Panthers earned a shutout win against the Eldorado Lady Wildcats 2-0 on Friday night at home. Benton Head Coach Jason Gentry said this was the first win in six years against El Dorado, adding this was a big win for the Lady Panthers, which now have sole possession of first place in the 6A South.
“Eldorado was 8-0,” Gentry said. “They’re a good team every year, usually the number one team in our conference,” Gentry said. “I challenged our girls early before the game just to make sure to make them earn shots. Make them earn everything, don’t give them anything, don’t dive in, don’t miss the ball, and they did that. It was awesome.”
During the first and second half, the Lady Panthers (6-1, 5-1 South) had possession for the majority of the time. Sophomore Jayme Selph had eight saves and Gentry said she did a “great job of getting to the ball when she had to.”
