Though injured the majority of his senior season, Bryant runner Charlie Terry didn’t let his injury get the best of him. And his injury definitely did not deter the Hendrix Warriors track and field and cross country Coach Patrick McDonald. McDonald’s persistence paid off as Terry signed to run for Hendrix College on Monday at Bryant High School. And Hendrix had competition as Terry was receiving collegiate offers in the 10th grade.
“I got my first letter at the end of my sophomore year and it just started from there,” Terry said of the recruiting process. “I was really focused on Division I, Division I, Division I, and I kept getting letters from Hendrix (Division III). They just kept popping up and Coach McDonald over there is just really persistent, really convinced to get me there at the school. Just seeing his drive and how much he wanted me there, he made a big impact.”
But it wasn’t Hendrix which had Terry’s attention at first.
“My main choice going into this was Rhodes,” he said. “Rhodes is in the same conference (Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) as Hendrix, and of course both coaches talk to each other. Rhodes is a beautiful college with a great campus; just a prestigious academic school.
