After three scoreless innings, it looked to be a pitcher’s duel between Benton Williams Tire and the Bryant Junior Black Sox at Hornet Field in Bryant on Tuesday. But, Benton struck for five runs in the top of the fourth and would hold on the rest of the way for an 8-5 victory.
Bryant’s Will McEntire, on a 35-pitch pitch count because of an upcoming tournament, pitched two scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out four, but Williams Tire took advantage of walks and hit by pitches by relief pitching in the third to put some runs up, and all with two outs.
After a fly out and a pop out to start the top of the fourth inning, Benton’s Jenson White was hit by a pitch, stole second and third, and scored on Grant Shelnut’s infield single for the early 1-0 lead. Shelnut made it to third as Sawyer Webb and Michael Allison walked to load the bases, and Logan Easterling singled in two for the 3-0 lead. Allison went to third on the single and would score on Caleb Easterling’s single as Benton led 5-0 after three and a half.
