The Benton Everett Infiniti junior American Legion team was engaged in a back-and-forth affair Tuesday at Bernard Holland Park. But despite being down 7-5 after five and a half innings, Infiniti came back to defeat the Lakeside Rams 8-7.
Lakeside took a 2-0 lead after one when walks and a hit by pitch gave Infiniti the 2-run deficit, but Benton would get within one in the bottom of the second inning when Dawson Ross singled to start, was sacrifice bunted over by Keagon Schweikle and eventually scored despite the next two Infiniti batters striking out.
Lakeside added a run in the top of the third for the 3-1 lead, but Infiniti took the lead, at least for awhile, in the bottom of the third. Zach Duncan walked to start and leadoff man Brayden Carman reached on an error. Jared Toler walked, and after two consecutive outs, Ross came through again with a single to score two runs and Benton led 5-3 after three.
