The Bryant Black Sox senior American Legion baseball team swept the Benton Everett senior American Legion ball club in two games Wednesday at Hornet Field in Bryant. The Black Sox took down Everett 14-1 in the first set and 12-2 in the second game.
In the first matchup, Bryant lefty Beaux Bonvillain gave up an unearned run in the top of the fourth for the only blemish with the Black Sox leading 13-0 at the time. Bonvillain gave up four hits in the five-inning win and struck out six.
Bryant wasted little time as leadoff man Logan Allen, who was a homer shy of the cycle, tripled to start the bottom of the first and would trot in on an error. Benton starter Westin Buchanan walked the next three men before Jordan Gentry’s single brought home Garrett Misenheimer and Jake East’s bunt single loaded the bases up. Seth Tucker made it 3-0 with a fielder’s choice RBI before Aaron Orender hit a 2-run single to right field for the 5-0 lead after one.
Allen doubled to lead off the bottom of the second, stole third and would score on Misenheimer’s sacrifice fly. Austin Kelly walked and Gentry singled in Dylan Hurt, who reached via walk, for the 7-0 advantage. Kelly scored on an error, Gentry on Tucker’s RBI single and East scored on Orender’s third RBI of the day, a sacrifice fly to centerfield for a 10-0 Black Sox lead after two.
Bryant picked up three more in the third on Kelly’s RBI single to center and East’s 2-run triple, and in Allen’s final chance to complete the cycle, he had to settle for a sacrifice fly RBI to center field for the final tally of the game.
Everett picked up its run in the top of the fourth when Grant Rambo hit a one-out single and went to second on Tristian Hutchinson’s bloop single to right. Rambo came around to score on an error when Logan Gartin’s ball got past the first baseman.
