The Bryant Junior Black Sox traveled to Smackover for a doubleheader Monday night and came away with a pretty easy sweep to close out the regular season. Tied 2-2 in the first game through the fourth, the Black Sox put up five runs over then next three innings for the 7-2 victory before routing Smackover 19-2 in the second game.
The Sox put a run on the board in the first inning of the first game when Logan Catton reached on an error to lead off the contest. Logan Chambers sacrificed him to third and Brooks Ellis hit an RBI ground out for the 1-0 lead.
Smackover responded with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning before Brandon Hoover reached on an error to start the second and would eventually score on Konnor Clontz’s sacrifice fly for the 2-1 lead. Smackover scored another unearned run in the second but it remained a 2-2 game through the fourth before Bryant struck for a couple in the fifth.
Hoover hit a one-out single and went to third on a Grayson Prince double. Both runners came around to score on Coby Greiner’s double to left for the 4-2 lead. It was another double in the sixth which scored two more runs. Catton singled and Jacob Wright walked before Catton scored on an error by the catcher, and Wright scored on Hoover’s double for the 6-2 lead. The Jr. Sox added a run on an error in the seventh for the 7-2 final.
Greiner started and picked up the win giving up two unearned runs on five hits and three walks, and struck out five in four innings. Wright pitched the final three scoreless innings for the save, giving up two hits and a walk, and also struck out five.
