Bryant Lady Hornets senior athlete Haley Hood is going to the next level. Not only is she going to the next level, Hood is going to a supreme one. On Thursday at Bryant High School, Hood signed a National Letter of Intent to compete in track and field for the Ole Miss Rebels, a Division I Southeastern Conference school.
“Haley joins a long line of outstanding track and field athletes that have gained college scholarships through our program,” Bryant Coach Danny Westbrook said. “Her dedication, hard work, and commitment have made her very successful in her high school career. Those attributes also have provided her this opportunity to continue competing along with pursuing a college degree at a Division I, SEC university.”
Just to name a few accomplishments, Hood was this past year’s 7A Central Conference champion in the high jump, ranked first in the state for high jump, was a member of the 4x400-meter 7A State Championship relay team, and is the 2014, 2015 gold medalist in the high jump at the Junior Olympic regional meet.
“Haley is a very dedicated young woman,” Bryant sprint coach Keith Dale said. “She sets her mind to achieving great things and does everything she can to make it happen. Her cheery personality keeps everyone up-beat and working hard.”
Hood also had a top 20 finish in the state heptathlon in 2014, was the 2015 state runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles, named Arkansas All Conference and All State this past year, placed sixth in the 2015 state heptathlon and is currently tied for the school record in the high jump.
