Bryant's Ward Reddie

It didn’t take much thought for Bryant Lady Hornets senior catcher Julie Ward to decide where to go to college to continue her softball career. Offered by several schools, it was pretty much a no-brainer for Ward to sign a letter of intent to play softball for the Henderson State Lady Reddies, which she did Wednesday at Bryant High School.
“Basically I’ve just been going to camps at Henderson since I was like 8 years old and ever since then I knew I wanted to go there,” Ward said. “I love Coach (Beth) Jackson, I love how the girls act together, I love how they act more as a family than as a team. They enjoy being there.
“I got offers from Harding, Williams Baptist and some other schools, but I’ve always been set on Henderson.”
Ward, who has hit .311 in three seasons and led Bryant in RBI last year, has played for the Lady Hornets since she was a freshman. First-year Bryant Head Coach Lisa Dreher said she like’s Ward’s leadership.
“I’ve had her more than the other girls because she’s in my seventh period,” Dreher said. “We’ve been able to work out and have a little bit of time on the field.
“She’s a great leader, very vocal and knows the game very well. She’s a coach out on the field. Her being vocal and knowledgeable is really beneficial in the catching position. She is very at home back there.”
