The Benton Panthers faced off against the White Hall Bulldogs and won 71-47 in the Panthers’ first official game of the year at Benton Arena. Benton Head Coach Dexter Hendrix said the team played really well offensively.
“What I was proud of, we shared the basketball,” Hendrix said.
Senior Jake Scoggins scored the first basket in the first period. The Panthers led 17-10 against the Bulldogs after one, and in the second period, the Bulldogs tried to get the lead from the Panthers, down 25-23 with about two minutes left in the half, but the Panthers maintained control and led 32-27 when the first half ended.
“We knew it was going to be tough to hold them as athletic they are across the board to keep them contained all night,” Hendrix said. “We knew they [White Hall] would have a lot of energy and momentum coming at us early.”
The Panthers started with possession in the third period. Joseph Hammond scored in the first few seconds and put the Miners ahead 34-27. Benton led 55-41 at the end of the third period.
