The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals began 5-3A Conference play Tuesday night with a bang, beating Perryville 58-46 for the first time in more than three seasons.
“This was a very good win,” Head Coach Chris Smith said. “It is always nice to start conference 1-0 and felt like our kids really played well tonight. I was really pleased with them.”
Harmony Grove came out with a flourish in the first quarter, jumping out to an 18-8 lead after one.
Senior guard Morgan Efird continued her hot play, knocking down three threes in the first quarter to help the Lady Cardinals out to a healthy lead. She would finish the night with a game-high 20.
Another nice standout for Harmony Grove was center Rhiana McElroy. The tall, lanky inside threat posted 10 for the Redbirds in the win.
“Rhiana did a a good job tonight,” Smith said. “I thought she rebounded the ball better and made her shots underneath the goal and made some really good moves. I was really impressed with her. My other big girls really played well, especially against (Perryville’s) big girls. They had two really good girls. I was pleased.”
