The Harmony Grove Cardinals took on a tough Prescott squad in Week 8, falling to the Curley Wolves 48-10.
This week, the Cardinals travel to Gurdon as they continue their push for another 3A playoff berth.
Gurdon, though, has a lot of history connected to Harmony Grove as Harmony Grove Head Coach Paul Calley is a former Go-Devil.
“I love Gurdon, Arkansas,” Calley said. “It is a very special place. I want them to win every game that they play — except one and that is against us.
“I know the tradition. I know coaching staff, which are very well-coached and the kids play hard. Depth has been a problem, and they have lost some tough ones.
“But they also beat a very good Centerpoint team at home, 31-10. That tells me all I need to know.”
Calley added that his team did not stop Centerpoint at all during the Cardinals’ 40-36 win in Week 7.
“Considering the score of their game, they are very comparable to Centerpoint,” Calley said. “Gurdon’s record is not very indicative to what kind of football team they have. They are starting to get a few players healthy and we are still banged up.”
Sean Small is likely to miss Friday’s contest and Matt Williams has already been ruled out for the Cardinals.
“That is half of our secondary,” Calley said.
Calley added that quarterback Hunter Hilson will be forced to go both ways — playing safety and quarterback.
Kickoff for Friday night’s tilt is set for 7 p.m.
