The Bauxite Miners picked up a huge road victory in a make-up 7-4A Conference game Thursday night when they took down the Nashville Scrappers 45-44 in overtime.
On Tuesday, the Miners fell 45-44 to the Fountain Lake Cobras at home. Senior Dylan Melton missed a couple free throws late in that game, but would come up big on Thursday when he hit one late to help force overtime.
“Dylan has been struggling but he hit a huge free throw to tie it at the end of regulation,” Bauxite Coach Andy Brakebill said. “He finished with two big layups in OT.”
The Miners (10-5, 3-2) were up big, 25-15, at halftime against Fountain Lake before losing, but were down seven with two minutes left in regulation Thursday in Nashville before coming back for the victory.

Lady Miners edged by Scrappers

The Bauxite Lady Miners traveled to Nashville for a 7-4A Conference make-up game and almost came away with a victory over the league undefeated Lady Scrappers. A slow start would end up biting Bauxite as the Lady Miners fell 39-36. Bauxite is 10-8, 2-3 in conference going into tonight’s contest vs. Waldron at Fred Dawson Gym.
“It was tough,” Bauxite Coach Cody Lambert said. “They haven’t lost in a game in conference. We had our chances to win but couldn’t pull it out. We played pretty well in the second half. We gave them problems defensively. But we have to finish. Close doesn’t count in a lot of things, especially basketball.”

Tonight’s game vs. the Waldron Lady Bulldogs is Military Appreciation Night at Fred Dawson Gym. All veterans and active-duty military get in for free. A meal will be served to military at 5 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Tipoff is 6 p.m.
