The Glen Rose Beavers (6-1, 4-0) stayed hot in Week 7, winning their fifth straight contest since suffering their only loss in Week 2 at the hands of Bauxite (7-0, 4-0).
Week 7 matched the Beavers against a familiar foe in Jessieville as Glen Rose took care of business to the tune of a 38-0 rout. The shutout is the third of the season for Glen Rose.
The win also held more weight than normal as Head Coach Mark Kehner reached a rare milestone with his 100th victory as leader of the Beavers.
Glen Rose torched the Lions on the ground, gaining a total of 244 yards with senior Jay’Shawn Cox leading the way with 194 yards on 10 carries while scoring two touchdowns.
This week, the Beavers head for Perryville (2-5, 1-3) as they visit the Mustangs for the first time in 4-3A Conference play.
Perryville is coming off a 43-0 win over Two Rivers, but had previously lost five straight coming into last week’s contest.
The Mustangs are led by junior running back Cole Griffin, who has rushed for 364 yards and five scores on 53 carries this season. Following him are juniors Reid Standridge with 228 yards and four scores and James Patrick with 154 yards and a touchdown.
At the quarterback position, Standridge has completed 37 of 82 pass attempts for 583 yards and four scores. He has also been intercepted eight times on the year.
Defensively, Standridge also is a leader with a team-high 50 tackles, followed by Hunter Tindall with 49 and Dyllan Collier with 42. The three have a combined 19 tackles for loss through seven weeks of play.
On the year, the Mustangs have a combined four sacks as well.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Mustang Stadium in Perryville.
