ARKADELPHIA – The Bauxite Lady Miners went on the road to Arkadelphia Tuesday in 7-4A Conference action and left with a 53-49 victory over the Lady Badgers to improve to 12-8 overall, 4-3 in league play.
“Arkadelphia is a good basketball team, much improved from last year,” Bauxite Coach Cody Lambert said. “I thought we played with good energy and good focus.”
Junior Sydney Oliver scored a season-high 21 points in the win, with her previous season-high being 12 in the first game of the season.
“Sydney Oliver came to play,” Lambert said. “She had 21, definitely her best game of the year. We need her to do more than that. We need her to be a scorer.”
Sophomore Shelby Chavers matched her season-high with 13 points and Lambert said the two guards have to produce like that on a consistent basis.
“Shelby Chavers is starting to come around,” he said. “Those are two kids we’re going to have to rely on every night. They could be two of the best players in the conference.”
