Shurtleff signs with Bison

The Bryant Hornets baseball team has yet another player going to play at the next level. After pitchers Ethan Lee and Zach Jackson signed with the Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday, senior Hornet Alex Shurtleff made it three Bryant pitchers when he signed with the Harding University (Searcy) Bison on Friday at Bryant High School.
“I went to a camp at UALR and Harding happened to see me,” Shurtleff said. “They got my contact information from Coach (Kirk) Bock and they contacted me. I visited there twice, once with the coach and once on my own. They have a small campus, but they have really nice facilities. I like it.
“I like the fact that I’m going to Harding because they have a physical therapy program and that’s what I want to get into. It worked out well seeing how they gave me a baseball scholarship and have the field I want.”
And Shurtleff is definitely a winner. He has yet to lose a game in two seasons with the Hornets, going 7-0 with an 0.83 ERA in 42.1 innings pitched, including 6-0 with an 0.65 last season. He has struck out 37 and walked just eight in two seasons.
