Yet another Bryant athlete signed to play at the next level on Monday at Bryant High School. With three Hornet athletes signing last week, senior softball Lady Hornets second baseman Shayla McKissock will be the first of five athletes signing this week when she inked to play at the next level when with the Mississippi Lady Choctaws, located in Clinton, Mississippi.
McKissock said it didn’t take long for her to decide on the Choctaws.
“I did have other schools recruiting me and I did have other offers, but when it came down to it, there was nowhere that felt … nowhere I loved as much as Mississippi College,” McKissock said. “Whenever they offered me, it only took me about three days to accept the offer because I knew that’s where I belonged.”
Mississippi College, an NCAA Division II program which went 30-24 overall and 14-15 in the Gulf South Conference, was the perfect fit, according to McKissock.
“I was looking for somewhere that was out-of-state but still close to home,” she said. “That’s how I started off my search. I didn’t want to stay here (Arkansas) forever. I also looked for places with really good biology programs. I got hooked up at Mississippi College at a tournament and they were recruiting me.
“I just really love them because when I went there it was like family and really faith-based. It just really connected with me.”
