When Hannah Shelby was about 9 years old, she went to Arkansas State to visit her older brother Nathan, who was one of the original “The Naked Guys” who went to football games painted from the waist up in school colors.
During her visit, Hannah joined her brother and the rest of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry organization at a football game.
“He was like, ‘You’re going to do this. You’re going to do it with me,” recalled Hannah. “So there’s a picture of me and him at the game. I was an A and he was an O. We were vowels together.”
It was then Shelby first got the itch to go to A-State.
Now that itch will finally be scratched as she will follow in her family’s footsteps after she signed her letter of commitment to Arkansas State University to join the cross country and track team.
“I liked A-State academically,” she related. “I want to be an Early Childhood Education major so when I went for a Preview Day at A-State, I liked the way that they taught.
“I liked the professors that I met and the honors dorms. I liked the facilities and the fact that there’s place specifically for athletes that can help with tutoring if they need it, and just the overall feel of the campus.”
Shelby also considered Central Arkansas in Conway and Henderson, but going to Arkansas State was a no-brainer. Not only did Nathan go to Arkansas State but so had her maternal grandparents.
